What is diabetes?

Diabetes is a chronic condition that affects over 150 million people in the world today.

The percentage of people suffering from diabetes is increasing rapidly, to the point where many medical authorities are referring to it as an epidemic.

So what is diabetes?

Diabetes prevents your body from turning your food into energy. Instead glucose stays in your bloodstream, and left untreated can result in a range of complications.

If you have recently been diagnosed as diabetic, don’t worry. With proper treatment and care, you will lead a normal and happy life. You may need to make a few changes in your lifestyle - but then, if you are like me, you probably had plans to do that anyway and just never got round to it.

Now is the time to kick yourself into action. You cannot leave this up to your doctor alone - it needs you to take responsibility for your own treatment, and that starts with understanding what you are dealing with.

People who get too little sleep, or too much, are far more likely to develop diabetes

, say scientists. A study has found that those who did not enjoy the optimum level of seven to eight hours sleep a night were two and a half times more likely to develop a blood sugar abnormality linked to type 2 diabetes. Researchers who studied the habits of 276 volunteers over a six-year period said they did not know the cause. Outlander download Christmas Story ipod

The findings, published in the journal Sleep Medicine, suggest seven to eight hours’ sleep a night seems to be the ideal amount for adults to protect against common diseases and premature death. Scientists say they do not know the cause, but previous studies have shown a link between sleep patterns and obesity, cardiovascular disease and overall mortality. Obesity is known to be linked to diabetes, but the greater risk of diabetes due to sleeping habits remained even when obesity was taken into account. Previous research suggests sleep loss could disturb the production of hormones that control the desire for calorie-rich foods, hunger and energy expenditure.

Researcher Angelo Tremblay said ‘This study is a continuation of our recent investigations having focused on the relationship between sleep duration and the risk of obesity. ‘The greater risk towards diabetes that we document in our most recent paper remains significant even after a statistical adjustment for body mass index and waist circumference. ‘With respect to clinical implications, it is clear that the recommendation to seek an optimal sleep duration seems to be appropriate but for some individuals, it is easier to say than to do.’ Other surveys have revealed fewer and fewer people are getting the right amount of sleep. Around one third of the adult population regularly sleep five hours or fewer a night. The average night’s sleep is seven hours which research suggests is the ‘healthiest’ amount. It is possible the increased risk for long sleepers might be a symptom of impending health problems

?”. No one can give an exact answer, but after years of research, doctors can safely say they know many factors that cause someone to have diabetes. Though the disease cannot be cured completely, there are many measures one can take to prevent it from becoming worse, simply prevent themselves from being diagnosed. Before someone officially has diabetes, they go through a phase called “pre-diabetes”. If in this stage one controls their eating habits, and exercises regularly, will stop it from becoming all out diabetes.

If you notice certain symptoms, you may be going through pre-diabetes, and you should visit a doctor as soon as possible. These symptoms include being very thirsty and hungry, extreme fatigue and tiredness, and blurred vision. If you start noticing any of these symptoms (especially if you notice more than one) you should visit a doctor as soon as possible. Do not hesitate, as your better safe than sorry!

Though there are said to be many causes for diabetes, there was certain factors you can control. For example, obesity is a major cause of diabetes, and this can be prevented. If you exercise regularly and eat properly, you will be at much less risk for being diagnosed with diabetes, in comparison to someone who does not take these measures.

As there are two types of diabetes, each has some individual characteristics and causes. Type 1 diabetes is most common is men, and seems to be somewhat related to genetics. Type 1 diabetes occurs when your body does not produce insulin anymore. A deficiency in insulin is usually the main cause of Type 1 diabetes.

Type 2 diabetes has been proven to be more in relation to genes. If a adult has it, it will often be passed onto your children. Then again, this does not mean that adult who has diabetes will have kids with diabetes. This type is easier to control than Type 1, and this can be done through maintaining a good lifestyle. Some of these lifestyle changes include controlling high pressure of blood and also maintaining a healthy weight.

What are the Symptoms of Diabetes

One Point O video

Coraline divx ? Symptoms of diabetes may come faster for some, slower for others, or not at all for some. Generally, most people do experience some symptoms, some of these being fatigue, a feeling of sickness, urinating often, thirst, and some others.

Often, the first symptom that many notice is urinating extremely often. This happens because the body has an excess of glucose. This affects your kidney because it is not able to take the glucose to your blood stream, causing you to urinate very frequently.

Many people suffering from diabetes (usually Type 1) will start to lose weight without even exercising. This is a result of the body not creating enough insulin, thus it resorts to muscle tissue and fat for energy. This causes a person to drastically lose weight.

A sign that majority of people with diabetes notice is being excessively thirsty. No matter how much water you drink, you will still feel thirsty. This goes hand in hand with having to urinate very often. If you feel like you cannot quench your thirst, you need to see a doctor as soon as possible.

A major symptom of diabetes is fatigue. Diabetes is a disorder involving glucose. Your body needs glucose to supply you with energy, so when it is not present, the individual will feel tired very fast.

Lastly, you may feel tingling in parts of your body such as your hands and legs, and sometimes your feet. This happens from high glucose levels damaging your nervous system. This can improve overtime for diabetics if the right blood glucose level is reached.

Even with all the given symptoms, it is hard for one to tell whether they suffer from diabetes until they actual visit a doctor. If you experience even one symptom and have doubt, visit a doctor as soon as possible. The better you know, the more that can be done to better your condition.

Diabetes Blood Sugar Level

February 4, 2009 by admin

People with diabetes must keep a very close eye on their blood sugar level, commonly referred to as their sugar level. The bodies of diabetic people functions much different than others. If a diabetic person intakes too much sugar, they may start to feel bad (physically and emotionally), and if this happens to often, it can lead to worsening of their condition. It is important to keep a steady blood sugar level, to keep your body happy, and your mind happy.

As easy as it seems to be careful of what you eat (to maintain your blood sugar level), it is not easy at all. Any diabetic can relate to this. It is not as easy as it sounds. For those who are not diabetic, think of it like this. How hard would it be to not be able to walk to the freezer, take out your favorite ice cream, and eat away? The craving is so hard to resist, but it is something that people who are diabetic must resist.

High blood sugar is when there is excess (or too much) glucose in the blood stream of an individual. Glucose is a type of sugar which comes from many of the foods which we eat, and is a major source of energy for the cells in our body (energy used to move cells through blood).

The condition in which the blood sugar level is too high is called hyperglycemia (a term which all diabetics are familiar with). It is not a commonly used word, as it is the medical term. When a human’s body cannot create insulin, which is type 1 diabetes, a high blood sugar level occurs. In type 2 diabetes, a high blood sugar level occurs when the body is not able to respond properly to insulin. Insulin is needed in humans, and for diabetic people who lack insulin, they must take daily medication.

Diabetes Food Pyramid

For many readers, the Diabetes Food Pyramid The Horsemen dvd

Black Sheep buy

may be new, but to Diabetics, it is something every one will know about.  Basically, the Diabetes Food Pyramid is split up into six groups. Every group is different in size, with the largest group containing grains, vegetables, and beans.

This group, being the largest, as weird as it may sound, is at the bottom of the food pyramid. In contrast, the smallest group which consists of the fats, alcohol, and sugary foods, is found at the highest part of the pyramid.

The message behind this is as such; the smallest group (fats, alcohol, and sugary foods), should be consumed the least, while the largest group (grains, vegetables, and beans) should be consumed the most.

Not everyone follows the pyramid as strictly as others, and this has been shown through studies. For those who have the minimum amount of servings shown in the groups, they consume around 1500 calories. For those who have closer to the maximum amount of servings shown in the groups, they consume around 2700 calories.

As many would already assume, men tend to be at the higher end, while women are almost always at the lower end. People’s guidelines to the pyramid vary depending on what they are trying to accomplish (mentally and physically).

Many readers may now be wondering, what is the difference between this pyramid and the regular Food Guide which we so often saw in elementary school and high school? The difference is that this Pyramid puts foods in order based on how much protein and carbohydrates they contain, rather than how the foods group with one another. The servings are also often much less in the Diabetes Food Pyramid (for example, fruit juice is 1/3 cup in the Diabetes Food Pyramid compared to 1/2 cup in the food guide)

An easy way to follow the Diabetes Food Pyramid is by using the recipes in a diabetic cookbook, the ingredients and meals are already picked out for you and all you have to do is mix and prepare the Delicious Diabetic Recipes
